Jane Got A Gun, the troubled Western starring and produced by Natalie Portman, has been delayed for a third time. Now, Relativity Media is eyeing a September 2015 release.
Initially, after principal photography finished, the film was scheduled for August 2014. Then in April, the film was delayed until February 2015. Today, Deadline reported that there’s been another delay. Relativity has scheduled the film for Sept. 4, when it would go up against Sony’s Kitchen Sink comedy.
Jane Got A Gun had one of the most difficult productions in recent years, so Portman and the other producers should be happy that the movie came together at all. We Need To Talk About Kevin helmer Lynne Ramsay was first hired to direct the movie, but she didn’t show up on the first day. She reportedly had disagreements with financier Scott Seindorff, which ultimately lead to a lawsuit between Ramsay and the producers. The suit wasn’t settled until March.
Even before that problem, Portman dealt with a carousel of leading men. Michael Fassbender was first picked to play the main villain role, but he left and was replaced by Jude Law, who also left and was replaced by Bradley Cooper. Cooper even left, so Portman’s Star Wars co-star Ewan McGregor stepped in. Joel Edgerton and Noah Emmerich stayed on from the beginning.
The film wound up being directed by Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor. Eventually, we will get to see the final product.
