Since Neil Patrick Harris is hosting his first Oscars in just two months, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences has posted its first commercial for the 2015 ceremony. It’s really short, but it proves that Harris is going to have some fun with Hollywood.
In the 15-second spot, the former How I Met Your Mother star shares his advice for Christmas gifts.
“This holiday season, give your family a gift they’ll never forget,” Harris says. “Instead of traditional gifts, give them the gift of just telling them to watch me host the Oscars.”
The Academy has also slowly been making announcements about qualifying films in the past few weeks. Earlier this month, the organization announced that over 300 films have qualified for Best Picture. However, the only movies that are really expected to compete for that award include Boyhood, Birdman, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, Selma, Gone Girl and Interstellar.
Last week, the Academy announced that nine films have moved ahead in the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. These are: Wild Tales (Argentina); Tangerines (Estonia); Corn Island (Georgia); Timbuktu (Mauritania); Accused (The Netherlands); Ida (Poland); Leviathan (Russia); Force Majeure (Sweden); and The Liberator (Venezuela). Only five films will secure a nomination.
The Oscar nominations will be announced on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 8:30 a.m. ET. The awards will be handed out on Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. ABC will air the ceremony live.
