The Brooklyn Nets traded forward Andrei Kirilenko to the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. The deal is expected to be finalized on Thursday.
The deal will save the Nets about $12 million in salary and luxury tax. The 76ers will send forward Brandon Davies to the Nets and will receive a 2020 second-round draft pick, and the right to swap second-round picks with the Nets in the 2018 draft, according to Yahoo Sports, which first reported the trade. Kirilenko probably won’t be the only player the Nets send to the 76ers. The Nets will most likely send guard Jorge Gutierrez to the 76ers as well.
Kirilenko is in the final year of a $3.3 million contract. He will be waived by the 76ers when the deal is finalized. Kirilenko, who is in his 13th season in the NBA, has played in just seven games this year as he has fallen out of favor with coach Lionel Hollins. The last time he played was on November 13. He is averaging 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game in his career, according to NBA.com. He was an All-Star in 2004 and made the first All-Defense team in 2006.
Davies signed with the 76ers in October 2013. In 20 games this season he is averaging 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 19 minutes, USA Today notes.
Kirilenko will become a free agent when the 76ers waive him. The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Clippers are among the teams that could be interested in Kirilenko.
