A pilot, who was the lone passenger of a small plane, was killed Tuesday after the aircraft crashed just a few feet away from a home outside of Denver.
KUSA-TV noted that officials said the twin-engine Cessna 404 had departed from Centennial Airport shortly before 4:30 a.m. and was enroute to Denver International Airport before the fiery crash.
Firefighters were called to the scene to contain the blaze after the plane went down and landed in the front yard, just a couple feet away from a Centennial house.
South Metro Fire Rescue Authority spokeswoman Becky O’Guin said that the plane actually slid a bit before finally stopping in the yard near the home.
No one in the residence was injured. The homeowner said he and his family were asleep when they heard the sound of the crash and saw the fire.
The name of the deceased pilot has not yet been released.
The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting the investigation.
