Two transit officers gave a woman the best Christmas gift Thursday when they helped deliver her baby on an El train in Philadelphia.

KYW reported that another rider alerted the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority that a woman aboard one of the train’s cars was going into labor.

Sgt. Daniel Caban and Officer Dorrell James sprung into action.

“As soon as we got there, I could see the baby’s head coming through her sweatpants, and we just went right to work,” said Caban.

WPVI noted that the train stopped and while riders in other cars were unaware what all the commotion was about at the time, the officers assisted the woman in delivering the baby.

"The umbilical cord was tight around the neck a little bit, cleared that, other than that, healthy baby boy," James said.

The mother and her newborn son were then transported to a local hospital in good condition.

SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel III expressed the department’s excitement over the birth of the child and joked that he waived the fare for the train’s newest rider.
