Sam Smith, who tied for the most Grammy nominations last week, doesn’t really care for holiday music. However, that didn’t stop him from singing the standard “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”

Last week, the In The Lonely Hour crooner posted a simple video of the iconic song, showing him performing it in a studio with only a piano to accompany him.

He looks to be enjoying himself, but that’s probably because it is the only Christmas song he would ever want to do.

“I hate Christmas songs, it’s true,” Smith explained to Boston’s Mix 104.1 on Tuesday. “But [‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’] is the only song I would ever attempt to sing, because of Judy Garland singing it.”

“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” has become a jazz standard over the decades, but did make its debut in a Judy Garland movie. She sings it towards the end of 1944’s Meet Me In St. Louis.

Smith scored an impressive six Grammy nominations last week for his debut album, In The Lonely Hour, and his smash hit single “Stay With Me.” He’s the only male artist nominated for Record of the Year.
