If you shopped at Staples this past summer, then you are in the mix to have your credit card compromised, the national office supply chain stated today.
According to Forbes, Staples has issued a press release warning 1.16 million customers that their credit cards can be in jeopardy, due to a breach this summer. The hack ultimately affected 115 stores, across the entire nation. Staples released a five-page list of outlets customers need to be concerned with.
Initially, the problem seemed to only be a northeast problem, but after further investigation stores reaching as far as California are included. The specific time date for which the hack occurred fell mainly in between August 10th and August 16th, notes Bloomberg.
Don't panic and jump of the Brooklyn Bridge just yet though. This breach is significantly smaller in size compared to the previous ones Home Depot and Target saw. At Home Depot, information relating to 56 million credit cards and 53 million emails were compromised. Target saw 40 million cards and 70 email addresses and phone numbers involved.
To make up for the problem Staples is now offering free identity card protection and a free credit report to customers who used a card for purchase at any of the affected stores in the relevant time period stated.
