People find things to complain about in everything, even if it is just an 88-second teaser for a movie that doesn’t come out for another year. When it comes to the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser, people who had apparently never seen a Star Wars movie actually complained about a black actor in a Stormtrooper costume.
The first actor to appear in the trailer is Attack the Block star John Boyega, who appears in Stormtrooper armor, popping into the frame. In an Instagram post over the weekend, Boyega thanked fans, but he also left a post script for anyone complaining about him being in the movie. “To whom it may concern... Get used to it,” he wrote, adding a smiley face.
Anyone complaining about Boyega being in a Stormtrooper costume obviously hasn’t seen Star Wars, one of the few franchises to have a major character played by a black actor. Billy Dee Williams starred as the cooler-than-cool Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Samuel L. Jackson played the coolest Jedi in the galaxy, Mace Windu, in the prequels. Plus, we don’t know if Boyega’s character just happens to be wearing Stormtrooper in the scene.
The Force Awakens teaser was posted on Friday. The film doesn’t hit theaters until Dec. 18, 2015.
