Taylor Swift made a very public statement against the online streaming service Spotify when she pulled her entire music library off the site, upon the release of her latest album 1989. Swift apparently has been receiving a lot of support from a wide range of artists after her decision to leave the site.

Swift explained to The Hollywood Reporter that she was surprised by the reactions on both sides. "I didn’t think that it would be shocking to anyone… With as many ways as artists are personalising their musical distribution, it didn’t occur to me that this would be anything that anyone would talk about. But I could never have expected so many text messages, emails and phone calls from other artists, writers and producers saying thank you," said Swift.

Spotify is realizing that even without Swift they have a lot of artists that are still wanting to place their music on the service. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, recently sat down with Billboard and opened up about the public breakup with Swift.

"There are many artists to whom, through the labels, we're paying out millions a year already. Those check sizes will just keep increasing. I'm certain that if we can get the billion-people-plus that are consuming music online and move them into a model like Spotify, the industry would be considerably bigger than it is today," said Ek.
