The latest episode of NCIS: Los Angeles had the team searching for the killer of a paparazzi man named Jack Chapman, who was killed by an IED outside the home of a CIA operative.
It turns out that the killer was actually targeting her husband, a marine, and after doing some digging into cases where items were left at the scene, Nell discovers a serial killer is targeting people, specifically military fathers whose sons are in military school.
As this is going on, Callen and Sam have some fun moments where Callen teases Sam about dressing up for his daughter’s birthday party. Sam got rid of the photographic evidence and won’t tell Callen what he dressed as, although he revealed later on he went as Sully from Monsters Inc. While all this goes on, the case hits him for Sam, who grew up with a strict military father himself.
This episode was jam-packed with team moments and action as they worked to prevent another target from being killed. Let’s take a look at the top ten moments from “Reign Fall.”

10. Victim
The victim turns out to be someone one of the targets knew. Sergeant Gunny Johnson asked Chapman to keep an eye on his wife’s home, which was in the process of being sold. He had gone there and was killed in an attempt made for Johnson’s life. Johnson feels guilty and does what he can to help with the case.

9. Devin Johnson
Devin is Johnson’s son, who takes his military training very seriously. Callen and Sam go to bring him up to bring him safely to NCIS headquarters. Of course, an amusing exchange occurs when Johnson won’t leave without his dad’s verbal permission. So Callen calls Kensi so he can speak to Johnson.

8. Serial killer
When Sam and Callen view the victim’s body, they find a rose petal near him even though there are no rose petals nearby. The case reminds Nell of a previous case she had helped with in which a marine was killed before a bottle of perfume was left near him. They eventually discover a few men with sons in the military schools were killed and they realize they could be dealing with a serial killer.

7. Teasing Sam
The team teases Sam because he won’t tell them how he dressed up for his daughter’s birthday party, and he claims the knowledge is between father and daughter. Later, Callen playfully accuses Sam of making Beale delete any photos that could have been taken.

6. Interogation
After Johnson is used in a plot to lure out the killer, Kensi and Deeks interrogate the boy responsible for trying to run down Johnson in the parking lot. He is quick to confess to the murders, but he appears shaky and jittery. Deeks and Kensi are unable to get much out of him, especially since he appears to be protecting someone. We soon find out he had a stepfather who was very hard on him and his brother, and his brother has a problem with authority.

5. Marty and the basketball player
Deeks and Kensi go to a basketball player’s house to interview him since he had issues with the victim, Jack Chapman. Kensi is shocked to discover that Deeks knows him personally and had never said anything, even when they went to one of his basketball games. The player has an alibi for the time of the murder and even beforehand, but Kensi is still in dismay over the banter between the boys.

4. Callen and the killer
While Sam is examining the area where they found the killer in an abandoned school, Callen confronts the suspect, but he refuses to talk, although he tells Callen to leave his mother alone after learning they spoke to her when she came to the office. Sam has them come in where he makes the boy stand on what he makes him think is an active IED, which he had been working on. Sam does this in an attempt to get him to admit who the next target is.

3. Bait
Johnson is used as bait in an attempt to lure the killer and put an end to what is going on. He goes with Sam to the place where he usually goes to get coffee and at one point, they think a man sitting near them is the suspect. But then after Johnson walks out to the parking lot where he follows, the man ends up going to someone else’s car. As Johnson keeps walking, a car comes at him, but he is rescued by Sam and Callen in time.

2. Target
After finding out who the next target is, the team rushes to save him. Kensi and Deeks find him safe and sound when he is out for a run, but when they ask him to come with them, he is alarmed as he tells them his son is on his way home. They quickly inform Callen and Sam, who arrive barely in time to save the young boy.

1. Phone calls
This episode drew on Sam’s memories of his own dad, especially since he was a tough military dad. But it appears Sam had a deep respect for him, since he called him by his last name. At the end of the episode, Sam is looking at a photo of his father and as Callen leaves, Sam calls his father to see how he is.
