It was only three weeks ago that country singer, Ty Herndon, came out publicly that he was gay. Now after that news, he is making his first public appearance with his boyfriend of five years, Matt Collum.

People reported that the two arrived together at the the 2014 TrevorLIVE in Los Angeles this past Sunday. Both Herndon and his partner Collum, were supporting The Trevor Project. The project is an organization that helps lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth who are going through negative thoughts and working through suicidal thoughts.
The couple had a light sense of humor about their first public appearance. Herndon opened up to People magazine. "I looked at him and said, 'You know, once we walk this carpet, you're totally gay," said Herndon. "He looked at me and said 'Dude!' He has a great sense of humor."
The country singer explained that this was the last step in truly finalizing his relationship with Collum. "This was the last piece of the puzzle to be authentic. Lies eat away at whatever you do, especially your relationship. So, now we're pretty solid," said Herndon.
Currently Herndon is working on his new music but he said that marriage is something that the couple has talked about.
The country music community has been very supportive about Herndon and his new relationship. Country superstar, LeAnn Rimes, said that Herndon texted her right before he made the announcement and she couldn't be more proud, The Huffington Post reported.
"Ty waited for a very long time in his life and Billy actually has a chance at having a full life as an out, gay man." Rimes went onto say, "People should be able to love who they love -- it's as simple as that."
