A 17-year-old girl was fatally shot by police in Longview, Texas after she allegedly entered the police station brandishing a weapon.

The News Journal noted that authorities said the teen, identified as Kristiana Coignard, was shot and killed in the lobby of the station last Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m.

Longview police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said the teen used an after-hours assistance phone and requested officers.

“When police arrived to assist her, that’s when she confronted them,” said Brian. “She did brandish a weapon. I don’t know what kind it was. She came at the officers and was shot.”

Coignard was shot multiple times and Longview Mayor Jay Dean said that he understood that the weapon she had was a knife.

The Marshall News Messenger reported that the three police officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid leave Friday. Their names have not been released.

Local media outlets pointed out that a video of the incident exist and is now being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
