Authorities said that the search for an abducted 3-week-old baby ended tragically when she was found dead in a Dumpster behind a strip mall in San Diego County.
CNN reported that the coroner’s office confirmed that the deceased child found Sunday was Eliza Delacruz, who was kidnapped in Long Beach after her parents and uncle were shot.
"About 4:30 p.m., San Diego County Sheriff's Department notified Long Beach Police Department that they were investigating the discovery of a deceased infant, knowing that Long Beach Police were actively investigating a case involving a missing infant," said Long Beach police spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.
CBSLA.com noted that one day before the baby was found, officers responded to call of gunshots fired at a North Long Beach home. When they arrived, they discovered one female and two males suffering from gunshot wounds.
Law enforcement officials said the woman is the infant’s mother and the men are the child’s father and uncle. The three victims were transported to a local hospital.
At this time, authorities do not have any suspects in custody, but said that a dark-skinned male was seen fleeing the home with the baby after the shooting.
