Benedict Cumberbatch, who is on the cusp of earning his first Oscar nomination, is soon going to be fronting his own Marvel movie. The British actor doesn’t think there’s any danger or risk in taking the role of Doctor Strange though, thanks to Marvel’s track record.

“I don’t think it’s a risk because of Marvel,” Cumberbatch said in a new interview with the Wall Street Journal. “Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods. It’s very different, it’s an Astral Plane.”

Cumberbatch noted that his Doctor Strange movie will introduce audiences to another new part of the Marvel universe, which he is excited to explore with director Scott Derrickson. He also wouldn’t give any piece of information out about the movie’s plot.

The Sherlock star also said that he didn’t grow up reading comics.

“There weren’t many comics in my household — [in a self-mocking voice] ‘I’m so deprived.’” he said. “We didn’t have Marvel so much. But you can bet your bottom dollar I’m reading them now, avidly.”

After weeks of speculation, Marvel finally confirmed last month that Cumberbatch would play Doctor Strange. The movie isn’t going to be released until Nov. 4, 2016.

Cumberbatch can currently be seen on the big screen in The Imitation Game.
