There was another major guild awards ceremony last night. While the American Cinema Editors’ ceremony wasn’t televised, it is still an important step for any film before the Oscars. Wins last night for Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel certainly help their chances at the Academy Awards.

Booyhood’s Sandra Adair, ACE won the Best Edited Feature (Dramatic) award, while The Grand Budapest Hotel’s Barney Pilling won Best Edited Feature (Comedy/Musical).

As previously noted, the past 12 ACE Award winners have also won the Best Editing Oscar. However, the only time an ACE Best Edited Feature (Comedy/Musical) movie has won in that period is Chicago. It’s also important to note that no Best Picture winner has won without even an ACE nomination since Ordinary People in 1981.

Adair’s work on Boyhood required her to piece together a film that was made by writer/director Richard Linklater over a period of 12 years. Both Boyhood and Grand Budapest were nominated for the Best Editing Oscar. The other nominees are American Sniper, The Imitation Game and Whiplash.

Here are the other ACE Award winners:

BEST EDITED ANIMATED FEATURE FILM: The Lego Movie – David Burrows & Chris McKay
BEST EDITED DOCUMENTARY (FEATURE): Citizenfour – Mathilde Bonnefoy
BEST EDITED DOCUMENTARY (TELEVISION): The Roosevelts: An Intimate History: Episode 3 / The Fire of Life – Erik Ewers

The next big guild award ceremony isn’t until Feb. 7, when the Director’s Guild hands out their top prize.
