There are some real nightmare Comcast customer service stories, but they usually don’t include a customer being called an “asshole.” However, that’s exactly what happened to Lisa Brown and her husband, whose name was changed on a Comcast bill.
Brown told her story to consumer advocate Christopher Elliott, who reports that her husband’s name - Ricardo - was changed to “Asshole Brown” on her latest bill. She tried everything to change it, even visiting her local Comcast office in Spokane, Washington. But she couldn’t get it changed.
Elliott first thought she was joking, just making up another nightmare Comcast story to add to the growing list. But she sent him a copy of the bill and there it was - “Asshole Brown.”
According to the Consumerist, Brown thought the name change might have been because she recently asked to cancel the pay-TV networks, but she said she was never rude during that process. “It could have been that person was upset because I didn’t take the offer,” she told Elliott.
When she finally called the main Comcast headquarters, they took it a bit more seriously. The local general manager later called to confirm that the name will be changed back.
“We have spoken with our customer and apologized for this completely unacceptable and inappropriate name change,” a Comcast rep told Elliott. “We have zero tolerance for this type of disrespectful behavior and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine what happened. We are working with our customer to make this right and will take appropriate steps to prevent this from happening again.”
Comcast said they would waive the $60 fee to cancel her pay-TV subscription and that the employee who made the change will be fired. However, Brown said it was still unacceptable.
