A surgeon at a Boston hospital was critically wounded after a gunman shot the doctor outside an examination room before taking his own life.
The Associated Press noted that authorities said on Tuesday the suspect walked into Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center at Brigham and Women's Hospital just before 11 a.m. The man asked for the physician by name, confronted the doctor outside his office and shot him twice, before turning the gun on himself.
The doctor was critically injured and rushed to the emergency room. The gunman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not yet released the identities of either the victim or his assailant. The Wall Street Journal did, however, report that the suspect was around 6-feet-tall and wearing glasses when he entered the building.
Law enforcement officials are currently investigating a possible motive as to why the suspect would shoot the surgeon.
"We're in the process of talking to witnesses, but it's leading us to believe there was something in the past that upset this guy, that made him go in and look for this particular doctor," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.
No other injuries were reported.
The hospital is affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
