The family of a missing AIG insurance executive has confirmed his death hours after a body was found floating in a pond at a Palm Desert hotel.
CNN reported that the family of Omar Meza announced on Facebook Thursday that the body found in the water at the J.W. Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa was the insurance executive.
"We are with heavy hearts tonight as we announce the passing of Omar Meza. He was a very loved son, husband, brother & friend," a post on the Facebook page titled Find Omar Meza read.
Mesa, 33, was last seen at the hotel on Jan. 8. Since then, searchers have been looking in the area for him.
On Thursday afternoon, shortly after 2:00, KESQ noted that authorities discovered a body, but at the time would not say if it was Meza or not.
Meza’s widow said her husband had gone to Palm Desert for a sales meeting and had dinner at the Marriott. His wallet was later found on the hotel golf course. She said he had been suffering from short-term memory loss ever since a car accident last year.
Police continue to investigate the case.
