The Motley Crue biopic The Dirt, based on the book of the same name, has been in development hell for years. But it looks as though it may finally be coming together, as Focus Features is backing the rock drama, to be directed by Jeff Tremaine (Jackass).
The Hollywood Reporter picked up the exclusive. There's a script by Rich Wilkes and Tom Kapinos and, in addition to Tremaine being involved, that has been the most progress the film has had in years before now. Co-producing the biopic will be Motley Crue members Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, and Nikki Sixx. Also producing is Neil Strauss, the author behind The Dirt.
Focus promises the movie to be a "Dr. Feelgood" movie that's outrageous and hosts larger-than-life depictions of the band's highs and lows with fame, drugs, sex and interactions with the police.
For years, Paramount tried developing this movie, with Larry Charles (Borat) is the director's chair. Of course, that version never came together. Even David Fincher was considered to direct the movie at some point. Tremaine has been attached to direct since late 2013, after he made Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.
As for the real Motley Crue, Ultimate Classic Rock reports they are currently on tour, with their last dates at the Staples Center in Los Angeles coming up.
