Authorities in France have said that they have arrested Chechen nationals believed to have been plotting a terrorist attack in the country.

The International Business Times reported that on Tuesday, law enforcement officials confirmed that five Chechens were arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack.

Reuters noted that four of the suspects were arrested in Montpellier and one was taken into custody in Beziers.

Local media outlets have said that officers also seized guns from the suspects.

The arrests come at a time when France is still reeling from terrorist attacks earlier this month.

On Jan.7, gunman stormed the Parisian offices of Charlie Hebdo and killed 12 people. The following day, a policewoman was shot and killed in Montrouge and four more people were fatally shot after being taken hostage at a kosher market.

In light of the recent attacks, many parts of Europe have heightened their terror alert levels.

Just last week, officials in Belgium began counter-terrorism raid operations and apprehended more than a dozen suspects also thought to have been planning terrorist attacks.
