Both 2012's The Raid: Redemption and last year's The Raid 2 are among the most beloved action films of the past decade, so naturally fans are eager to see the third and, likely, final chapter to Gareth Evans' action saga. According to the filmmaker, however, fans shouldn't be expecting the next chapter "anytime soon."
Earlier today, Evans took to Twitter to say when fans should expect the third Raid feature when a fan asked about the upcoming movie.
Why, exactly, the movie will take that long is a bit of a mystery. According to Collider, The Raid 2 only made about half the gross of the first film domestically, so maybe that is restricting him. It is also possible, however, that he is still planning and putting together what he wants. He has said last year on Twitter that he has plans for a third feature, which will take place two hours after the heart-pounding events of the second film. Of course, given this new timeline, this likely will not be the case anymore.
At the moment, Evans is turning his attention towards making a gangster film called Blister, which he describes his take on the American gangster story. He is planning to shoot that movie soon, as well as a heist movie with Universal after that. So that is what is keeping his attention in the mean time.
As for the actors of The Raid, they are also having little trouble getting work, as three of them, including lead actor/fight choreographer Iwo Uwais, planned some action sequences for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Uwais also is working on the upcoming Raid remake, set to film sometime this year.
