Icy conditions on a New Hampshire highway created hazardous driving Friday morning which resulted in a massive freeway pileup.

Reuters noted that state police said no life-threatening injuries were reported in the two accidents that occurred just before 10 a.m.
on Interstate 93.

The accidents caused the 35-vehicle pileup and sent about nine people to the hospital, however, most have since been released.

Authorities said the earlier reports of a 50 to 100-car pileup on the interstate are false.

Some the vehicles, including a tractor trailer, slid into one another and then burst into flames.

Although the exact cause of the accidents are under investigation, weather appears to have played a major role.

"We had a snow squall go through around 9:45 a.m. ET this morning, which typically will reduce visibility," said State Police Lieutenant Jerome Maslan.

The Boston Globe reported that the northbound lanes of the highway had been closed since the crashes, but reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
