Mark Wahlberg could reunite with his Lone Survivor director Peter Berg sooner than anticipated. J.C. Chandor has left Deepwater Horizon, so Berg is in talks to take over.
Deepwater Horizon will be about the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. The BP rig exploded, killing 11 and leading to the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, creative differences were the reason for Chandor, who just directed A Most Violent Year with Oscar Isaac, leaving. However, THR does note that the project has had trouble filling out the other roles.
The film is a co-production between Lionsgate, Participant Media and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. TheWrap notes that the film has already been scheduled for a Sept. 30, 2016 release. The site also notes that Liam Neeson and Michael Keaton are being considered for other roles, but no deals are set.
Berg is best known for his work on Friday Night Lights, but experienced a career setback with Battleship. He did make a comeback with Lone Survivor, which earned good reviews and was a box office hit last year.
As for Wahlberg, his next movie is Ted 2.
