A Weymouth, Massachusetts mother was surprised when she learned that she was going to have a baby girl, especially since she was told she was already nine months pregnant and gave birth an hour later.

Katherine Kropas, 23, told NECN that she never suffered morning sickness and her body gave no other signs that she was pregnant until she went into labor. She did have swollen feet, but assumed that was because she worked 50 hours a week during the holidays as a caterer.

She said that she was on birth control, so she and her boyfriend were especially shocked by the news.

“At the time, I was like, 'This has got to be a joke,' but I had no idea what to think,” Kropas said.

She rushed to South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth on Tuesday after suffering lower back pain. She was told that she was going to have a baby at 10:15 and the 10-pound, 2-ounce baby was born at 11:06, she told WBZ. She named the baby Elle.

“I thought I had put on some Christmas season weight, but I never thought I was pregnant. Never,” Kropas said.

Surprise pregnancies themselves are much of a surprise to doctors. In fact, Dr. Kim Dever of Obstetrics and Gynecology at South Shore Hospital told WBZ that they see a few “cryptic” pregnancies a year.

Maybe TLC will have to revive I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant.
