The McConaissance is still riding high in Hollywood. Matthew McConaughey has scored two new roles this week, including an adaptation of a best seller.
The first one is Born To Run, an adaptation of Christopher McDougall’s best seller. According to Deadline, which first reported the news, the film will be produced by Di Bonaventura Pictures, Outlaw Productions and LD Entertainment. The individual producers are Mickey Liddell, Deb Newmyer and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
Born To Run isn’t about the making of the Bruce Springsteen song, but it’s about a journalist who ventures to Mexico’s isolated Copper Canyons to learn about the Tarahumara Indians, who can run miles without injury. The book was a New York Times Bestseller and has sold 2 million copies in the U.S. alone.
Next, Variety is reporting that he will also star in Gold, a movie directed by Syrianna’s Stephen Gaghan.
Gold was written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman. It’s about a 1993 mining scandal and will be produced by The Imitation Game’s Black Bear Pictures. CAA will handle domestic distribution sales. The package will be put up for sale at the European Film Market during the Berlin Film Festival.
Last year, McConaughey won an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club and starred in the acclaimed HBO series True Detective. He also recently starred in Interstellar and just finished Gus Van Sant’s The Sea of Trees.
