The Microsoft Windows 10 event is underway and in addition to unveiling some futuristic headgear and new system details, the company also announced big news for Windows 7 and 8.1 users.
USA Today noted that Microsoft unveiled the Windows 10 details on Wednesday. Terry Myerson, who is the company’s executive vice president of the Microsoft operating systems group said the new Windows version is about “more personal computing."
Some of the features include a new Internet Explorer, remember that? The brand new Web browser is called Project Spartan. Microsoft will also add Skype to all devices and incorporate the Office programs of Word, Excel and PowerPoint on all Windows 10 phones and tablets. Windows 10 will also have a full-screen start menu like the Windows 8.1 home screen. And of course, Microsoft’s personal assistant Cortana will be featured on PCs.
The Verge reported that while on stage Myerson made another big announcement. He said within the first year of the Windows 10 launch, those who use Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows Phone 8.1 can upgrade to the latest version free of charge.
But possibly the hottest topic of the event was the all new Microsoft HoloLens. Reactions to the virtual reality headset poured in as #HoloLens immediately started trending on Twitter.
