Miss Colombia beat out 87 hopefuls to take the crown in the 2015 Miss Universe pageant.
The Associated Press noted that 22-year-old Paulina Vega from Barranquilla, Colombia edged out first runner-up Miss USA Nia Sanchez to win the Miss Universe pageant on Sunday evening in Doral, Florida.
Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha was the second runner-up. Miss Netherlands Yasmin Verheijen was third runner-up and crowd favorite Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell was the fourth runner-up. Another crowd favorite, Miss Venezuela Migbelis Lynette Castellanos was cut after the top 10.
Earlier in the week, Vega expressed what she thought it would be like to win the coveted title.
"It will be a dream come true to represent the woman of today,” she said. “A woman that not only cares about being beautiful and being glamorous, but also cares about being a professional, intelligent, hard-working person."
Last week, it was reported that Miss Lebanon Saly Greige and Miss Israel Doron Matalon were at the center of a controversy when they appeared in a picture together on Instagram. Greige was criticized for the photo, but apologized saying Matalon photobombed her. Neither woman made the top 15.
As for Vega, she succeeded Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler as the second Latina to win the pageant in as many years.
