This year’s Oscars ceremony is shaping up to be another musical one, as the producers announced this week that Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine will perform. Host Neil Patrick Harris is also getting a special song for his debut Oscars hosting gig.
Levine was tapped to perform “Lost Stars,” the song he performs in Begin Again that earned an Oscar nomination. The track was written by Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois.
“Lost Stars” will compete against Selma’s “Glory”; The LEGO Movie’s “Everything is Awesome”; “Grateful” from Beyond the Lights and “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” form Glen Campbell... I’ll Be Me for Best Original Song.
Today, producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan announced that Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez will write a new song for Harris. The song is part of a new multimedia musical sequence called “Moving Pictures.”
Anderson-Lopez and Lopez won the Best Original Song Oscar last year for Frozen’s “Let It Go.”
The 87th Academy Awards are on Sunday, Feb. 22 on ABC. The nominees for Best Picture are American Sniper, Selma, Birdman, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Whiplash, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything.
