Since X-Men: Apocalypse is going to focus on the younger stars of Fox’s X-Men franchise, it would be tough for director Bryan Singer to fit in Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. So, he’s not going to try. Stewart himself confirmed that he’s not going to make an appearance in the new film.

During an interview with Larry King, Stewart said that he heard more about the film and there just isn’t a way for him and his best friend to be in the film.

“No, nor Sir Ian McKellen either,” Stewart said. “I was learning quite a lot more about it last night and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of our characters. And so, I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”

Singer announced Apocalypse in December 2013, even before Days of Future Past opened this past May. The new movie is still scheduled for May 27, 2016.

Not a lot is known about the plot, but there were rumors in November that there would be a romance between the young Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). There are also rumors that Channing Tatum’s Gambit will make his debut in the film.

Days of Future Past grossed $748 million worldwide and earned an Oscar nomination for Visual Effects.
