Police released the cause of death for a Utah couple and their three children who were all found dead in the same room inside their home last year.
The Associated Press reported on Tuesday, that authorities said the family died from "drug toxicity” and investigators said people interviewed told police the parents were scared about a “pending apocalypse."
Benjamin and Kristi Strack and their three children ages 14, 12 and 11 were all found dead in the master bedroom of the family home last September by the couple’s 18-year-old son.
The Utah Valley 360 noted that empty boxes and containers of cold medication, glasses of colored liquid and marijuana were all located near the bodies.
Law enforcement officials initially thought the Stracks may have been poisoned, however, the couple and 14-year-old’s death are now ruled as suicides and the deaths of the younger children are ruled homicides.
Court documents revealed that the couple had a history of legal and financial troubles and had gone through court-ordered drug treatment several years back.
