The man who was acquitted in the 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, will not face aggravated-assault charges for his latest arrest after his ex-girlfriend recanted her story.
The Orlando Sentinel noted that the Florida State Attorney's Office said Friday that George Zimmerman will not be prosecuted after Brittany Brunelle, 28, refused to cooperate.
According to the Associated Press, Brunelle said in court documents that she no longer wished for aggravated assault charges to be filed against Zimmerman. She also said that she was under no pressure and not offered any money for her statement.
As previously reported, Zimmerman was arrested on Jan. 9 for allegedly throwing a wine bottle at Brunelle.
Since his acquittal in 2013, the 31-year-old has had several run-ins with the law. He has been accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend with a shotgun, destroying his ex-wife’s property and was pulled over several times for traffic violations.
In all his alleged domestic violence incidents, he has escaped prosecution either due to lack of evidence or because his ex-lovers refused to cooperate.
