While neither actress Reese Witherspoon or director Alexander Payne found any trouble elevating their career past their work together in 1999's Election, neither captivated the same raw energy since then. Hopefully, though, that will soon change as they reunite for Payne's latest Downsizing.
Deadline reports Witherspoon joins Matt Damon in Payne's new social satire. There's no word on who, exactly, Witherspoon plays in the movie, although she was attached to the comedy several years ago. It's not clear when production starts on this new movie, although it is expected to begin once he is done shooting Ridley Scott's The Martain, filming right now, and working on the new Bourne movie, which he is co-writing and expects to start production this summer.
Downsizing, the director's follow-up to his Best Picture nominee Nebraska, centers on a man (Damon) who believes he would have a better life should he shrink himself. Scripted by Payne and Jim Taylor, the Oscar-winning writing duo behind 2004's Sideways, Downsizing picked up steam when 20th Century Fox picked up the film in earnest. Damon joined the film back in November.
Witherspoon is currently coming of a great year in 2014, where she produced and starred in Wild and also produced David Fincher's Gone Girl. Both may score Witherspoon Oscar nominations.
