Rob Konrad, a former player for the Miami Dolphins, fell off his boat Thursday afternoon and managed to swim nine miles to the Palm Beach, Florida coast.

The 38-year-old fell overboard from his 36-foot Grady White boat around 1 p.m. on Thursday, reports The Palm Beach Post. While wearing only a pair of jockey underwear, Kondrad swam for 10 hours before he reached land and met a police officer at 4:30 a.m.

His boat was on autopilot and continued drifting away without anyone on board. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that it was found near Grand Bahama Island this morning.

WPBF reports that Konrad was later taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for hypothermia.

Konrad, who played for the Dolphins from 1999 to 2004, told police that he left Deerfield Beach at 10:30 a.m. Thursday for a fishing trip and fell into the water around 1 p.m. During his swim, he did see a Coast Guard helicopter searchlight, but was not seen.

Konrad is currently the CEO of Alterna Financial and lives in Boynton Beach.
