Rose Byrne will reprise her role as CIA agent Moira MacTaggert in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the actress will make her return to the X-Men franchise after her character was initially introduced in 2011's X-Men: First Class. Byrne's MacTaggert was the love interest of James McAvoy's Professor X. Screenwriter Simon Kinberg said the new film will explore that relationship further.

"It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one." Kinberg said.

According to The Wrap, Kinberg explained that the film will serve as the end of the current story arc between the main characters.

“They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.” Kinberg said.

James McAvoy, Micahel Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will also return as Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, and Beast respectively.

X-Men: Apocalypse is currently set to be released on May 27, 2016.
