Following reports Sean Penn and Charlize Theron are engaged, Penn is reportedly making steps towards adopting her son, Jackson, 3.
Theron adopted Jackson when he was 4 months old in 2012. She’s been dating Penn now for over a year.
A source told People the actor has filed paperwork to formally adopt him.
It was rumored Penn, 54, popped the question to Theron, 39, while they were in Paris in November but neither one of them have confirmed it.
"Charlize and Sean are very serious," a source told People. "Charlize says this is it. Jackson already calls Sean daddy. This is the first step toward them getting married."
Penn already has two kids from his marriage to Robin Wright; Dylan, 23, and Hopper, 21.
Last year, Penn told Piers Morgan his Oscar winner girlfriend is a “keeper.”
