The final chapter in Peter Jackson's Middle Earth saga, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies has opened in China to large box office numbers. The final film in the Hobbit franchise broke records making $49 million at the Chinese box office.

The Wrap reported that this with added total from China, the film has grossed $600 million at the overseas box office. The movie already has made $249 million in the United States and the film has reached a total of $866 million globally.
China became the third highest market for the movie to open in, Five Armies made $78 million in Germany and the U.K. with $63 million.
The New York Daily News added that despite the popularity of the Lord of the Rings films, the final Hobbit movie only received one Oscar nomination and that was for sound editing.
This is the final chapter of the Lord of the Rings trilogy but director and creator Peter Jackson has expressed that with some time, he might want to return to Middle Earth because of the many stories left to tell.
