The surviving members of TLC are embarking upon their final album and have created a Kickstarter to fund it. Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas and Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins are asking for $150,000 to create the new album.
In an interview with Billboard, Chilli talked about their decision to use Kickstarter, which has been successful for other celebrities like Zac Braff, saying they just want full creative control over the project and this is the only way to do it.
She explained, “Doing it this way, we have complete creative control. The only people we'll be talking to and asking their opinion is the fans. That's it. Doing stuff outside of the box is what TLC does. We came out of the box already out of the box. If we feel like we're in the box, we'd go crazy.”
Chilli also said of Kickstarter that it’s “perfect for us,” saying she and T-Boz met with executives from the company and referred to them as “brilliant.”
When asked if any unreleased rap from Left Eye would be on the new album, Chilli said “probably not” because her most recent work before she died was solo work she was working on that was purposely a departure from what she was doing with TLC.
As for this being the final album, she said she will never rule another out but for right “now it feels like the final album.”
