Authorities said that they have arrested twin brothers and charged them with the robbery and murder of a woman who was walking home carrying Christmas groceries.
The Los Angeles Times reported that twins Kenyata and Keishon Blake, 18, were arrested earlier this week and charged with the robbery and fatal stabbing of Maria Elena Rivas-Lomeli days before Christmas.
KTLA noted that a news release from the District Attorney’s Office said that the siblings were charged with capital murder and two counts of second-degree robbery.
On December 22, 2014, the twins allegedly attacked the 62-year-old from behind as she walked home from a Ralphs supermarket. The robbers not only stole her handbag, but also her groceries.
A candlelight vigil was held for her three days after Christmas.
The LAPD have said that Rivas-Lomeli was not their only victim and that the twins allegedly attacked another woman on Jan. 23. However, that woman survived and escaped with only minor injuries.
Police believe the duo could be responsible for even more robberies in the South Los Angeles area.
Prosecutors are determining whether or not to seek the death penalty.
