Twitter added two new features today, one of which will make anyone hoping to tweet videos longer than a Vine very happy.

The first new feature is group direct messaging. This will allow users to send private messages to a group of friends or co-workers. In addition, you don’t even need to be following everyone in the chat. Previously, in order to send a direct message to anyone, who had to be following the recipient, who also had to be following you.

Next, Twitter has finally added its own video sharing system within the mobile Twitter app. The videos can be longer than Vines - up to 30 seconds - and will give anyone who needs more than 140 characters for their message a chance to speak. At the moment, only iPhone Twitter users can upload videos from their camera, but Twitter is working on that for Android users now.

The camera feature was also designed to be simple and has a few editing options.

The first message sent with the video was Neil Patrick Harris’ special Oscars announcement earlier today.
