U2 frontman Bono isn’t exactly known for his guitar playing, but he revealed in a blog post that we may never see him pick up the instrument again after his serious bike-riding accident.

Bono posted a long 2014 retrospective post on the U2 website, listing moments of the year alphabetically. In the section on Irish Pride, Bono wrote, “I broke my hand, my shoulder, my elbow and my face but the real injury this year was to my Irish pride as it was discovered that under my tracksuit I was wearing yellow and black Lycra cycling shorts. Yes, LYCRA. This is not very rock 'n' roll.”

Then, he noted that recovery had been harder than he thought. “As I write this, it is not clear that I will ever play guitar again,” he noted. “The band have reminded me that neither they nor Western civilization are depending on this.”

Earlier in the post, Bono noted that he couldn’t blame anyone but himself for the accident, which happened on his 50th birthday. Now, he has to focus on getting ready for the band’s 2015 world tour to promote Songs of Innocence.

“I promised myself I would be more mindful of my limits, but just four years on, it happened again - a massive injury I can't blame on anyone but myself, mainly because I blanked out on impact and have no memory of how I ended up in New York Presbyterian with my humerus bone sticking through my leather jacket. Very punk rock as injuries go,” Bono noted.

Bono also thanked Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin for replacing him during the World AIDS Day (RED) Benefit concert in Times Square last month.
