California public health officials are urging people unvaccinated for measles to not visit the Disney theme parks at this time, due to the recent outbreak.
The Associated Press reported that health officials said anyone who has not been vaccinated or who is still too young for the vaccination, should avoid the Southern California theme parks.
Those people should not go to the parks "for the time being," said state epidemiologist Gil Chavez.
Disneyland Resorts spokesperson Suzi Brown said that it is, however, "absolutely safe to visit if you're vaccinated."
As previously reported, the outbreak is thought to have occurred at Disney’s California Adventure and Disneyland in Anaheim sometime last month. A total of 42 cases have been traced back to those parks and the outbreak has now spread to five U.S. states and Mexico.
Officials are hoping the public heeds this warning and points out that even though the disease was eradicated in the U.S. in 2000, infected travelers can bring it into the country.
