Warner Bros. is once again hoping to turn a popular Hanna-Barbera series into an animated feature for today’s audiences. The studio is looking to bring back The Jetsons.

The film would be written by Matt Lieberman. According to Deadline, which first reported the news, Lieberman is working from scratch, since a live action version (which was apparently supposed to include Kanye West) is not happening.

Back in August 2013, Lieberman was hired to write an animated Scooby-Doo feature, but nothing has been heard on that front since the project was announced. Scooby-Doo, which Warner Bros. had previously turned into two live action hits, is also a Hanna-Barbera property.

The writer has several other scripts floating around Hollywood, including Paramount animation’s Giant Monsters Attack Japan and Short Circuit. He’s also written a Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride film for Disney.

For the record, there was an animated Jetsons feature produced in 1990, which William Hanna and Joseph Barbera as directors. The original series launched in 1962 and was a family sitcom set in a Space Age future.
