A healthcare worker who cared for Ebola patients in Sierra Leone was taken off of a flight and transported to a New Jersey hospital after exhibiting symptoms of Ebola.
The Bergen Record reported that officials in hazmat gear escorted the woman off a United Airlines flight on Monday at Newark Liberty International Airport and transported her to a local hospital.
One passenger shared photos of the nerve-racking scene as it unfolded.
Authorities said that the unidentified woman had a high fever and vomited on the flight, which arrived from Brussels.
There were a total of 248 passengers and 14 crew members aboard the plane.
They were each given health forms to fill out after the woman exited the aircraft.
The deadly Ebola virus has wreaked havoc on West Africa and claimed the lives of almost 8,500 people in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia since the outbreak began last year.
On Tuesday, Reuters noted that the World Bank said in a report that the disease is estimated to cost around $500 million dollars. A number much less than the $25 billion originally expected.
