The power of words we tweet was on full display Monday when social media users embraced what slain Japanese journalist Kenji Goto tweeted four years earlier.

A tweet from @kenjigotoip on Sept. 7, 2010 read: "Closing my eyes and holding still. It's the end if I get mad or scream. It's close to a prayer. Hate is not for humans. Judgment lies with God. That's what I learned from my Arabic brothers and sisters."

The tweet in both Japanese and English has been making the rounds on social media sites.

The Associated Press noted that the Twitter account was verified as Goto’s by his friend Toshi Maeda and so far the tweet has 20,000 retweets and counting.

A video posted over the weekend shows what appears to be the beheading of the freelance journalist who had been taken hostage by Islamic State extremists.

On Saturday, President Barack Obama released a statement condemning Goto’s reported murder.

"Our thoughts are with Mr. Goto's family and loved ones and we stand today in solidarity with Prime Minister Abe and the Japanese people in denouncing this barbaric act,” the president said.
