Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper had another great weekend, even breaking the record for biggest Super Bowl weekend gross. Meanwhile, the Michael Bay-produced Project Almanac flopped.

Typically on Super Bowl weekend, audiences stay away from the movies, but those still interested in Sniper had to check it out. The film earned $31.85 million, earning a hair more than Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds did in 2008. However, Box Office Mojo notes that this was a 51 percent drop for Sniper from the previous weekend. So all that interest might start cooling off.

The film stars Bradley Cooper as the late Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle. It was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

The No. 2 slot was held by Paddington, which made $8.51 million. It’s up to $50.54 million domestically, which is pretty good for the family movie.

Up next was Project Almanac, which did exactly as it was expected to - flop. According to Rentrak data, the film made just $8.50 million in its opening weekend. It’s the second-worst debut for a film from Bay’s Platinum Dunes company.

Kevin Costner’s Black Or White had a nice weekend with $6.45 million from just 1,823 locations. The Boy Next Door with Jennifer Lopez rounded out the top 5 with $6.09 million in its second weekend.

The Loft, which features James Marsen, opened to just $2.88 million.
