Reviews for Fifty Shades of Grey were out earlier this week and very few were kind to Sam Taylor-Johnson’s film adaptation of E.L. James’ erotic novel. Still, most aren’t calling it the “worst movie ever,” except for Lisa Wilkinson of Australia’s Today Show.

On the morning show, Wilkinson called it “the worst movie I have ever seen.” She said that it made Romance novels from Mills and Boon “read like bleedin’ Dickens.”

Like many other critics, Wilkinson was really harsh when it comes to Jamie Dornan, who plays the sex-crazed billionaire Christian Gray. She called the character “an emotionally crippled narcissist no-one could love.”

As news.com.au notes, Wilkinson concluded that the film is “more appalling than appealing,” adding, “It’s domestic violence dressed up as erotica...and if there’s one thing this movie is not, it’s erotic.”

American critics have also struggled to find positives to take from the movie and it only has a 38 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Most note that it struggles to stay interesting for two hours and plays too safe in order to get that R-rating.

Still, it will probably be a big hit in theaters this weekend. It opens on Friday.
