Disney's newest film Big Hero 6 has done tremendously well at the box office, and this weekend marked a huge milestone for the film.

According to Variety, Big Hero 6 hit $219.3 million at the box office this weekend and is now the third highest grossing Disney animated film of all time, passing Beauty and the Beast. It is behind only The Lion King and Frozen.

The Disney film, which was released in November, is about a young boy who teams up with a team of heroes, and with the adorable robot Baymax, to help save the city of San Fransokyo. It's the first Disney animated film with Marvel's involvement, and the movie is somewhat inspired by the Marvel comics property of the same name.

Co-director of the film Chris Williams said that the relationship between Hiro and Baymax is the reason the movie has resonated with audiences so much, according to Variety. He also notes that Disney has recently put more of an emphasis on storytelling and on the filmmakers.

Big Hero 6 has also done very well overseas, grossing $301 billion in foreign markets according to Box Office Mojo. In terms of overall gross though, the movie is still nowhere near the phenomenon that was Frozen, which ended up grossing an insane $1.2 billion, making it the highest grossing animated film of all time.
