Filming is underway for Tina Fey's latest comedy, an untitled Afghanistan/Pakistan comedy once titled The Taliban Shuffle, in New Mexico. But that won't stop two distinguished character actors from rounding out the cast, as Alfred Molina and Billy Bob Thornton both signed on to star in supporting roles.
Based on Kim Baker's memoir, the film explores Baker's (Fey) fish-out-of-water arrival to her new surroundings, where she must deal with the hassles which come from her job and gender. Fey joined the project as an actress and producer back in July, and she, Thornton and Molina also are joined by Martin Freeman, who was hired for the feature in in November and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street).
Also in the cast are Nicholas Braun (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Christopher Abbott (Girls), Sheila Vand (A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night), Stephen Peacocke (Hercules) and Evan Jonighkeit (X-Men: Days of Future Past).
Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love) and written by Fey's fellow 30 Rock writer Robert Carlock, the untitled feature also has SNL's Lorne Michaels and Ian Bryce (World War Z) on board as producers.
Coming off his excellent work on FX's Fargo last year, Thornton has Grizzly, Our Brand Is Crisis, Entourage and London Fields roaring into theaters later this year. Molina, meanwhile, has Paint It Black coming soon to theaters and the HBO mini-series Show Me a Hero soon to be unveiled as well. Ficarra and Requa, in addition to this film, have another upcoming film Focus, starring Robbie and Will Smith, and that's released on the 27th.
