Pitcher Danny Duffy agreed to a deal with the Kansas City Royals on Friday, avoiding arbitration.
According to the Kansas City Star, the deal is for one year and $2.425 million. This is the first time that Duffy has been eligible for arbitration. Duffy asked for $3 million and the Royals countered that with a $1.75 million offer.
Last year Duffy made $526,000.He can get $25,000 in performance bonuses under his2015 contract. He will get a $10,000 bonus for having 20 starts and a $15,000 bonus for having 25 starts. If he is an All-Star then he would get a $50,000 bonus.
Duffy was a huge part in the Royals success last year. He was 9-12 with a 2.53 ERA and held opponents to a .209 average last year, according to the Associated Press.
The Royals still have three players eligible for arbitration. Closer Greg Holland, reliever Kelvin Herrera, and first baseman Eric Hosmer are the remaining arbitration players. Holland made $4.725 million last year and filed for $9 million. The Royals countered at $6.65 million. Hosmer agreed to a $3.6 million contract last year and filed for $6.7 million. The Royals countered at $4.6 million. Herrera made $522,250 last year and filed for $1.9 million. The Royals countered at $1.15 million.
