Internet users have to catch up on period films, because they forgot what a woman wearing a corset looks like. At least, that’s why Disney thinks everyone is wondering why Lily James’ waist looks so tiny in the Cinderella trailers.
In the trailers, which prominently feature images of James in her blue ball gown, it looks like her waist was unnaturally shrunk. One promotional image that Disney is using (seen below) makes it even more obvious.
However, a source at Disney told BuzzFeed that there was no post-production fiddling with her waist.
“Lily’s waist hasn’t been altered (in the film or in any stills/marketing materials) – she’s wearing a corset,” the source said.
Corset expert Catherine Clavering told BuzzFeed that the tiny wait could happen if the actress already has a tiny waist, but that doesn’t completely mean that Disney didn’t pull any digital tinkering.
Cinderella was directed by Kenneth Branagh and hits theaters on March 16. The film had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival and earned a mixed review from Variety.
